Animators who had drown on only papers required a considerable time to adapt new circumstances, but they has shown impressive working efficiency that can offset the previously consumed time to apply the tablets.
Before the introduction of LCD pen tablet, it had taken average three days for an animator to complete a cut of key animation including a complicated motion. However, using the LCD pen tablet, the repetitive processes have been reduced up to 50% and so it takes average 1.5 days to finish a scene.
Impressive reduction of repetitive processes
With Wacom LCD pen tablet, the entire process of animation production including picture painting was digitalized and working efficiency was obviously improved. Since the tablet enables to clean up lines and to store the completed picture in a PC immediately, the line clean-up and the scanning steps became unnecessary.
In addition, an action-connection program allowed animators to readily check and modify the movement of a hero in real-time for each scene. Therefore, working time could be reduced by eliminating the need of rework that had eternally repeated.
Betterment of Animation quality
Wacom LCD pen tablet had influence on the quality of animations as well as the reduction of processes. Real-time motion check and convenient modification enabled to embody smoothly connected motions without awkward and unnatural connections.
In addition, the same motions had been used to be uniformly expressed before. However, Wacom LCD pen tablet allowed animators to express motions creatively and individually.
As a result, the motions of characters became more similar to human’s actual motions. Consequently, the qualities of its animations were improved. |

What is convenient with Wacom's tablet solution? |

JTEAM Studio first used LCD pen tablet in animation production in Korea. In the view of my experience for four years, it has shown more satisfactory results than my expectation.
As work processes were entirely digitalized, the work, such as scanning, to connect analogue and digital became unnecessary. As a result, working speed became faster. In addition, since animators could work with checking the action-in-motion in real-time, the error rate was decreased.
As, moreover, modification in the middle of a process was possible through the expectation about the result, it was almost disappeared to modify from final results. Consequently, the qualities of our animations were impressively improved.

How do you think the tablet will affect in the animation industry? |

Korean animation employees' eagerness and ability is reaching to the levels of advanced countries. However, relatively inferior working environment has forced Korean animation to stay in the OEM level of Japanese or American companies.
In fact, it takes a considerable time to get used the tablet. That causes animation companies to hesitate the introduction of the tablet. The delayed works for a couple of months may result in great loss for the companies that are pursuing profits. As far as years are concerned, the tablet will raise the level of Korean animation business much more. |

What do you think leaves you something to be desired for the tablet? |

At the beginning, I felt inconvenient with the heat generation from my tablet board in long-term use, surface gloss and different touching feeling from drawing on a paper. For the inconveniences or incommodities, I had continuously reported the information to Wacom. The heat generation and the surface gloss was disappeared in follow-up products and new released products are said that felt-tip is used as a base tip to give touch feeling that seems to draw on a paper.
I feel Wacom is a company that actively listens to user's opinion. Whenever I feel inconvenience, I will tell Wacom my opinion. This is not a complaint, but a piece of advice for further development. |
